CORPORATE SERVICES

The Corporate Services Group is primarily responsible for the efficient and effective administration of the organisation. Specific areas of responsibility include management of the human resources, computer and legal functions. Effective management in these areas is essential to allow other groups to function effectively.
- Coordinating and providing access to legal services and advice
as required
- Developing, managing and supporting a computer system for use
by all staff
- Developing and managing policy and systems for the recruitment,
retention, remuneration, training, and staff welfare and performance
management of NFA staff
- Administering staff benefits and services
- Ensuring that offices, equipment, vehicles and staff housing
are maintained in good condition
- managing an independent and transparent recruitment process
to ensure all permanent positions are filled by the best person
for the job who are properly inducted into the organisation
- working cooperatively with the Salaries and Conditions Monitoring
Committee and the Departments of Labour and Immigration to ensure
mutual understanding of each organisations requirements
- ensuring that all staff have employment contracts complying
with employment law and NFA policies
- ensuring effective staff performance reviews on a six-monthly
basis
- ensuring that managers comply with employment law, contracts
and NFA procedures for all disciplinary matters
- identifying and ensuring back-up staff are trained and available
for all key positions
- developing a pool of talented managers through practical experience
backed with short training courses and commercial attachment
- facilitating organisation-wide programmes in customer service,
time management and computer-based file management and other identified
common training needs
- providing a reliable computer network with all service available
and functioning during normal working hours through contracted
service providers
- ensuring that all staff understand the capabilities of computer
hardware & software systems currently in use, and new staff
are adequately briefed on system
- ensuring integrity of the computer system by controlling &
managing the purchase and use of computer equipment & software
and having clear policies, guidelines and effective backup and
disaster recovery procedures
- ensuring NFA have access to and retain the best legal advisers
in matters of fisheries and related law
- reviewing all contractual arrangements before commitment by
NFA to ensure they are legally correct and enforceable
- ensuring prosecutions under the Fisheries Management Act and
defences for actions against the Authority are effectively coordinated
and competently executed
