The National Fisheries College (NFC) is a division of the National
Fisheries Authority (NFA) and is now the only branch of the Authority
to be operational outside of Port Moresby.
The College or Fiscol as it is known locally in Kavieng, occupies
a large site on the Bulaminski highway some 3 kilometres outside
Kavieng town. The main campus has a range of facilities including
large training rooms and classrooms, a modern radio training room,
a safety and fire fighting training room, library, conference and
administration facilities. The College has dormitory accommodation
for up to 60 students. Students have access to a well-appointed
recreation room and associated sports equipment and grounds. Fiscol
also has a large waterfront site on Kavieng harbour with wharf,
slipway, workshop and net shed and gear store.
The main objectives of Fiscol are:
- Coordinate the provision of technical training opportunities
designed to enhance food production and food quality in artisanal
fisheries sector.
- Ensure the provision of appropriate technical and practical
training opportunities in fisheries and seafood in support of
an enhanced national human resource in the sector.
- Provide high quality technical and practical training opportunities
in support of skill development in fisheries and seafood.

link. In addition to its core courses and programs, Fiscol offers
a unique venue to public and private institutions and organisations
for meetings, conferences, workshops, courses and seminars. Facilities
and services include:
Auditorium: seating up to 140, this air conditioned
theatre has top quality digital audio and multi media capacity.
Training room: seating up to 60 persons for formal
meetings, this air conditioned venue can be set up to your specification
for meetings and conferences.
Catering: the refurbished kitchen and mess is
commercially operated and can cater for up to 140 persons for meals
and functions.
Classrooms and conference room: three separate
classrooms and several small air-conditioned meeting rooms.
Publication and administration: NFC operates a
WAN network that ensures no interruptions to internet and email
requirements. Computer links available for conference or meeting
delegates. Full publishing capacity with modern printers and copiers.
Administration services such as tele-card and telephone service
also available.
Transportation: a 25-seat bus is available for
hire as are other vehicles from the college fleet.
Guest house: Two high and low set fully furnished
houses available for on site accommodation for course or conference
organisers.
Participant accommodation: NFC offers single room
accommodation in recently upgraded dormitory blocks for up to 85
persons.
Waterfront facilities: Large and small vessels
available for hire as required. Recreational area on the waterfront
for BBQ’s or group activities.
