06 Jan 05 - Reopen Beche-de-mer Fishery in all Coastal Provinces

This public notice serves to advise all Beche-de-mer fishermen, licensed exporters and the general public that the Fishery will reopen as of 16th January 2005.

NFA and the provincial fisheries officers will be conducting random checks on licensed facilities around the coastal provinces for evidence of beche-de-mer being caught and processed prior to open date.

Fishermen and operators are therefore advised to refrain from collecting, processing, buying and selling, and storing Beche-de-mer before 16 January. Anyone found conducting these activities prior to this date would be dealt with accordingly.

Note: That ONLY PNG citizens are allowed under the Fisheries Management Act 1998 to be involved in the beche-de-mer fishery activity.

For more information, please contact, Fisheries Manager – Sedentary Fishery by phone: 309 0444 or fax: 320 3069 or email: ppolom@fisheries.gov.pg
