23 Nov 05 - Gulf of Papua Prawn Fishery - Timed Area Closure

This notice is to advice all the prawn operators and the general public that the Timed Area Closure for the Gulf of Papua Prawn Fishery commences on midnight 30th November 2005 and ends on midnight 31st March 2006. The Timed Area Closure runs from Cape Blackwood in the west to Iokea village in the east. Please note that the National Fisheries Board approved an amendment to the western boundary of the closure, which is 145 degrees 10 minutes 00 seconds east (145 10’00’’E), replacing 144 degrees 28 minutes 00 seconds east (144 28’ 00’’E). This means that the current licensed prawn trawlers are prohibited to fish inside the designated area closure. The prawn operators are to advise their boat captains of this management arrangement.

NFA will continue to place observers on all prawn trawlers for the purpose of compliance during the close season.

If you have any queries in this regard, please contact Mr. Augustine Mobiha or Ms. Luanah Koren on telephone 309 0444, fax. 320 2061, email amobiha@fisheries.gov.pg / lkoren@fisheries.gov.pg.
