15 Jun 07 - Notice to ALL Beche-de-mer operators and the General Public: MANUS PROVINCE BDM CLOSURE


The National Fisheries Authority (NFA) wishes to advise all beche-de-mer (BDM) operators and the general public in Manus province that the allocated annual TAC of 50 tonnes has been exceeded by for this year. The fishery will be closed in compliance with the provisions of the “National Beche-de-mer Fishery Management Plan, 1998.

The closure will take effect at the close of business on Friday 22nd June 2007. The take of sea cucumbers from their natural habitat after 22nd of June 2007, will be seen as illegal and those who are caught harvesting will be dealt with accordingly.

All BDM licensed operators in the province are given until close of business on Monday 2nd July 2007 to declare to NFA and Provincial Fisheries Office the quantity of their products kept in storage.
